Mutualism Mini III (Yellow Tube Sponge)

5"x7"

Acrylic paint, ink pen, water-based paint pen

2017

Another venture into the mutualism series! This time in appreciation of the yellow tube sponge, one of the many strange animals that looks like a plant. This creature lives on the coral reef and then provides a home for other animals who chill in the tube opening. You wouldn't know it from looking at this teeny painting, but the yellow tube sponge (Aplysina fistularis) can be over 3 feet tall!
